TST BOCES provides transportation-related services to ten subscribing school districts: Candor, Dryden, Groton, Ithaca, Lansing, Newark Valley, Newfield, South Seneca, Southern Cayuga, and Trumansburg. Our Transportation Support Services include:

  • New York State mandated courses and training

  • Supplemental activities for all transportation providers

New York State Mandated Service Trainings

  • 30-Hour Basic Course for School Bus Drivers
    Comprehensive training covering essential skills and knowledge for new drivers.

    This course will be offered at TST BOCES, in A building, Room A-14. Participants MUST attend all 4 course dates to become certified.

  • Basic Course for Monitors/Attendants
    Essential training for individuals assisting with student supervision and safety.

    Participants MUST attend all 3 course dates to become certified.

  • Two 2-Hour Safety Refreshers Each Year
    Annual refresher courses to update and reinforce safety practices.

  • 5-Hour Pre-Service Training for School Bus Drivers
    Initial training before beginning service, covering key topics and procedures.

  • 3-Hour Pre-Service Training for School Bus Monitors/Attendants
    Initial training for monitors/attendants before starting their duties.

All training must be conducted by or directly supervised by a School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI), a certification granted by the NYSED. Note: SBDI certification is not required for pre-service training, but an SBDI must document that the training was completed.

Buster the Bus is an innovative, fully animated remote-controlled robot designed to teach elementary school-aged children about bus safety. Equipped with a range of interactive features, Buster:

  • Moves, speaks, and listens through remote control

  • Plays MP3s and activates lights

  • Mimics real bus warning devices with a stop-arm

  • Winks, blinks, and moves his eyes to engage children

  • Smiles to create a friendly and positive experience
