With a focus on transportation safety, the TST BOCES Facilities Services department is working with Career and Technical Education students to create a safety bus.
The extensive project is expected to take nearly two years to complete and will be a collaborative effort among TST BOCES students and staff members. Welding students will work alongside maintenance mechanics and other Facilities Services personnel to transform an old school bus into a vehicle that simulates a rollover for safety training purposes.
According to Welding teacher Randy Jackson, his students will essentially cut the school bus in half and reassemble the back half flipped on its side. Once the students have welded the two sections together and maintenance mechanics have ensured the bus is safe and operational, the vehicle will be ready to hit the road for training activities hosted by the Transportation Department.
