RAS students travelled to see the new play “Possessing Harriet” at Syracuse Stage Thursday, October 25.
The trip was made possible by the generous purchase and donation of tickets by Niel Massa, the father of RAS instructor Suzanne Massa. Students from all grades were able to attend the show.
“Possessing Harriet” was written by local playwright Kyle Bass and tells the true story of Harriet Powell, a young, mixed-race, enslaved woman who escaped her owners while visiting Syracuse, N.Y. The play brings to life this important piece of history and was written to speak to the current cultural moment.
This was an exciting and unique opportunity for RAS students to engage with culture and learn about national history through a story with local ties.
