Helping Students Transition to College

Posted · Add Comment

The Career and Tech Center has been partnering with the College Now Department at TC3 to help students transition from high school to college. The Career and Tech Center offers 15 Concurrent Enrollment courses throughout six academic programs on campus. Students are able to establish a college transcript by attaining free college credits while still in high school.

In addition to the Concurrent Enrollment Program, Career and Tech students were granted the opportunity to take the Accuplacer on our campus at the end of March. The Accuplacer is the placement test to enroll in TC3, plus other SUNY Community Colleges, which tests a student’s current ability in math, reading and writing. The scores achieved from this online exam will determine a student’s placement in Math and English at the college level.

As a pilot program, Maria Nissi, Assistant Director of College Now, tested 30 CTE students on campus. Following the test, the students met directly with Maria to interpret their Accuplacer scores and determine their intended Math, Reading and English classes in college. TC3 bound students had the opportunity to meet directly with an admission counselor following the exam to discuss their intended majors, housing and registering for fall semester courses.
