What Does P-TECH Look Like?
Students enter the P-TECH program as ninth graders and work simultaneously toward earning a Regents High School Diploma and an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Tompkins Cortland Community College — at no cost to the student’s family. The 6-year sequence emphasizes individualized pathways to completion, work place experiences, mentorship, process-based learning and real-world experiences. P-TECH offers career pathways in Computer Science and Advanced Manufacturing. Fully inclusive, culturally sustaining, and relevant curriculum includes high-value workplace learning opportunities for students. Business partners design work-based challenges that teach students the technical and professional skills needed in their industry.
What Does a P-TECH Student Look Like?
A student who will succeed in P-TECH is motivated to learn in new and exciting ways, and thrives in a non-traditional classroom setting. Are you creative, well organized and interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math? Our students have the desire to build strong skills in communications, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and time management. Students entering ninth grade are selected based on an application process.
Advanced Manufacturing – Advanced Manufacturing is the integration of technology based systems and processes in the creation of products. Students will learn the foundational STEM and problem-solving skills that make them an in-demand, employable technician with knowledge in science, technology and math.
Career possibilities: industrial engineer, CNC machine operator, precision manufacturing
Computer Science – Students gain knowledge and practical competence in the Computer Science field allowing for a wide variety of career opportunities by educating them in the fundamental concepts, knowledge and practice in computer programming, database, web design, hardware, operating systems and networks.
Career possibilities: computer support specialist, network administrator, cyber security analyst, web developer
